Musical Director -
Are you learning a musical instrument?
Would you like to have fun making music with others?
Welcome to the Wymondham Youth Music Society website. On it you’ll find information about the classes and rehearsals that we hold on Thursday evenings. We’ve also got information about concerts and other events happening during the current season.
Why not support the work of the society and become a Friend of WYMS? You’ll be supporting an excellent cause, helping to further the work that we do in encouraging and supporting children as they develop their musical skills. We ask only for a minimum of £10 per year.
If you’d like to join, or want more information, please give our Secretary Linda White a ring on 01953 529158 or drop an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Application forms are available on the front desk at tonight’s concert.
We’re on the move!
When Wymondham Youth Orchestra was founded back in 1988, we established ourselves within Wymondham High School (as it was then known); we’ve been there ever since.
However, due to changes within the school, we have spent the last two years in the school’s Humanities department. Sadly, this has proved far from ideal - the acoustics are difficult and the space is very cramped, meaning that we have felt unable to recruit more members.
All this is about to change! Robert Kett Primary School have been able to offer us
the use of their Music Room on Thursday evenings. So we will be starting there at
the beginning of next term, Thursday 12 September. Everything else remains the same
- times, tutors and, of course, the fun!

This year, we celebrate 30 years of making music with young talent. So this summer’s Wymondham Youth Orchestra concert is a special anniversary one. We’ve music by Haydn, Brahms , John Williams and Rimsky Korsakov- all exciting stuff that will show off the best of our wonderful orchestra.
All this takes place in the splendid surroundings of Wymondham Abbey on Saturday 13 July at 7:30 pm. More details on our Forthcoming Events page.
Don’t forget our Junior Strings’ Summer Medley. It’s a joyous occasion, highlighting the talent and hard work of our youngest members. It’s on Thursday 11 July 2019 at 6:30 pm in the South Hall, Wymondham High Academy. Entry is free!
We’re 30 Years Young!
This year, Wymondham Youth Orchestra turns 30! Founded in 1988, the orchestra has gone from strength to strength. Out of the WYO came other aspects of what has become the Wymondham Youth Music Society. WYO was founded by Kay Dorling and our current Musical Director Margery Baker.
